Love and Diamnonds - A Valentine Anthology

Like a diamond there are many sides to writing. And participate in writing, for Astraea Press's Valentine Anthology, with 14 other fabulous, and best-selling authors, for Love and Diamonds has been awesome... and I use that word with care.

As those who follow my blog will know, I am part of another writing group who offer weekly stories/scenes/snippets from larger, longer stories that are generated by a single word prompt. (Simply scroll back and read any post with 'TT' in the title.)

Well, writing for this anthology was much the same. It brings out a camaraderie and fun of its own. Each author has their own interpretation of their prompt and for this anthology the title, Love and Diamonds, was our prompt.

Each author has written their own story, and by scanning their titles I have to say I am so looking forward to reading the other stories.

If you want to know more about Love and Diamonds and the 14 other authors, please head on over to Karen King's blog where my heroine, Sybil, from Queen of Diamonds, pestered me for more details.

Tuesday's Tales ~ Field

Welcome to Tuesday's Tales
This week I am in a different story which revolves around secrets and their consequences. In this scene Roderick discovers that his wife has known about his deepest secret for many years and never told him. Here he is asking her why she did what she did and what happened when she found out.

“Why didn’t you carry out your threat and call the police?” Roderick caught hold of her finger that threatened to drill a hole in his chest.
“I did, but when the fools recognised him they backed off, so in order to mollify the neighbours I let him in.”

“That sounds like Ivor,” Laura sighed, bent down and pulled out a silver cigarette case. “Do you mind?” she asked the room in general and acknowledged her thanks when he handed her an ashtray. “I’m sorry, go on.”
“So you let him in, what did he want?” Feigning the need to refill his glass, Roderick crossed the room, stood by the window and watched the two women while stealthily opening the latch. He hated the smell of cigarettes.
“To see your birth certificate.”
“My birth certificate?” her answer came out of left field as far as Roderick was concerned. Why would his birth certificate matter to Ivor Hazlewood? Unless the man was afraid his mistress had named him as Roderick’s father.  “What did you do?”
He noted her recognition of his choice of words. He knew his Celia and assumed his red-headed spitfire probably tried to run the idiot out of her flat.
“I tripped,” she paused, sent an innocence look in Laura's direction, saw the understanding and continued. “My coffee… I couldn’t keep hold of it, and it spilled all over him.”
“Oh my.” Laura’s awed voiced dropped into the gleeful silence. “I’ve wondered for years what happened that night. The kids ran for the hills and didn’t visit again for over a week.” Her hand came up to cover her mouth in an automatic gesture, but her eyes sparkled with amusement.

Sunday Snippet - 2nd Feb

New month ~ new story.
Today I am sharing a snippet from my short Valentine story,
Queen of Diamonds,
which is part of a fifteen author
Astraea Press Anthology
and due for release shortly...

“How could you do this to me — again?” Sybil Diamond stormed round her brother’s living room.” I told you I wasn’t interested, and it’s the third time you’ve pulled this stunt without my permission.” She whirled on Ritchie and aimed her fist low into his gut. It did nothing to appease her rising fury when he deflected her punch. Ritchie worked out more hours daily than she spent shopping.
When she nearly tripped on his discarded shirt she swore, bent to pick it up, and threw it on top of the pile of clothes on a nearby chair. “When are you going to shovel some of this lot into the washing machine?” she demanded; hiding a satisfied smirk at her brother’s wince. He may be a world champion surfer, but much as she loved him, the guy was a slob when it came to his living quarters.
